Rising Star's Tragic Fall: Akili McDowell Charged with Murder

"David Makes Man" actor Akili McDowell has been charged with murder following a deadly shooting. Deputies found Cesar Peralta, 20, unresponsive with gunshot wounds in East Harris County on July 20, 2024. Witnesses reported a physical altercation between Peralta and another individual, who fled the scene on foot.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirmed McDowell's arrest and murder charge. The actor, 21, is held on a $400,000 bond. His manager expressed condolences but declined further comments, calling the situation "unfortunate." McDowell, known for roles in "Billions" and "The Waterboyz," faces additional charges for a 2023 misdemeanor theft.

McDowell, who gained fame as a teen in "David Makes Man," spoke with Oprah Winfrey in 2019 about his impactful role. Now, his future is uncertain as he awaits court dates on August 6 and October 9.
